I Love to Read Month!

February is here and the festivities for "I Love to Read" month are in full swing!  So far this week, we have had two parent "guest" readers.  Mrs. Shannon Valiga, Kaylie's mom, read to us on Monday and Mrs. Sarah Wall, Elizabeth's mom, read to us on Tuesday!  We just love having our parents share their joy of reading with us.

We also had a special helper in our classroom today.  Miss Laura Flicek spent some time volunteering. Laura is a student at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.  She is majoring in Elementary Education and Spanish and decided to come in and volunteer while she finishes up her winter break.  We loved listening to her speak in Spanish and were so glad she was here.  Welcome, Miss Flicek!

In keeping with our "I Love to Read" theme, today we had a chance to "Read with the Cats!"  Wildcats, that is.  Hockey players from Eagan High School visited Northview today and read us a story.

Ben Raymond, Troy Brown and Jack Jenson are varsity hockey players at Eagan High School.  They read us the story Clifford's First Valentine's Day by Norman Bridwell.  Troy Brown is actually a former Northview All Star!

These hockey players also shared an important message with our kindergartners.  The players told the kids that in order to be good at hockey or any other sport, you need to work really hard in school because school comes first.  You also need to work hard on the skills of your sport.  They told us that knowing how to read is really important so you can be a good student and a good athlete.  We loved hearing that from them.  Thanks, Wildcats!
