So Much Fun in Physical Education with Mr. Nelson!

Have we told you how much we LOVE going to P.E. with Mr. Nelson???  This week we did parachute activities, learned about Jump Rope for Heart and worked on our upper body strength.  We go to P.E. on Cycle Day 2 and it is definitely one of our favorite classes every week!

Congratulations to Erica and Noah, this week's P.E. All Stars of the Week.  Thanks for being your best selves in P.E. and for being role models for your fellow students.  We are proud of you!

The 100th Day of School

On Monday, February 22, we celebrated the 100th day of school.  It is hard to believe we have been together as kindergartners for 100 days already.  We had a great day!

The Tiny Seed

When the students arrived at school on Thursday, instead of the normal seat sheet that is usually on the tables, they found a copy of Eric Carle's The Tiny Seed at their spot.  This seemed a bit strange, but the students started exploring.

We read The Tiny Seed  during our interactive read aloud time on Thursday.  During our Writer's Workshop, we wrote what we thought the author's message was for this story.  Be sure to ask your kindergartner what the message was!

On Friday, we each got a copy of the book again and had to choose our favorite part of the story.  We marked it with a post it note.  Then we participated in a table share.  A table share is when each person at the table takes a turn to share with the other table members about their favorite part.  The table members are expected to be good listeners and when every one has had a turn, we take time for questions and comments.

Our friends at the green table were kind enough to model the procedure for the entire class first.  Then the rest of the tables had a chance to share.  There were many great parts that the students liked and excellent conversations about the story!  It was a great Reader's Workshop activity.

All Stars of the Week

Congratulations to our P.E. All Stars of the Week this week…Akemi and Wesley.  Way to go, All Stars!  Thanks for being great role models!

Artwork Created in the Style of Eric Carle

As we conclude our unit of study on the author and illustrator Eric Carle, I thought it would be fun to see how we created some of the art projects that went along with our unit.  Many of these projects were done during our Managed Independent Learning time under the direction of Mrs. Radermacher.  These students have learned so much about how Eric Carle created his illustrations and we had a fantastic time trying out some of his techniques.  Enjoy the photos!

These photos captured the techniques we used to paint the paper we used to make the very hungry caterpillars hanging inside our classroom.

This adorable project went with the book Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me!

This project was a collaboration between all three kindergarten classrooms to create our own mural in the hall based on the book by Bill Martin and Eric Carle Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  We had to come up with five animals and choose the color of each.  Then we did something we had not done before.  We had to work together in small groups.  It was an interesting experience!  We learned that in a group situation, we need to have every group member participate equally.  Easier said than done.  We learned a few things about this and will be working in groups more in the upcoming weeks, so hopefully it will get better for us!
