Writers, Readers and Mathematicians

These kindergartners are working really hard in school.  We continue to work on making books and sharing our writing in Writer's Workshop.

We recently started Guided Reading groups during our Managed Independent Learning time!

We work together in small groups on Fridays doing our Math work places.

So proud of these little learners.

The Grouchy Ladybug

We enjoyed reading the story The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle.  These kindergarten artists created painted papers in the style of Eric Carle and used the papers to make their very own grouchy ladybugs.  It was a little tricky for some of our friends to make a grouchy face to put on their ladybug, but we had lots of fun painting, creating and working together doing this fun project.  Enjoy some photos!

Writer's Workshop

Since we have returned to school following our winter break, we have made some transitions in Writer's Workshop.  We are no longer writing in our red writing journals.  We are now using writing folders and are making books!  We were lucky enough to have our school literacy coaches, Mrs. Rapp and Mrs. Fiedler in our classroom during writing time for a few days to help us get this new stage of Writer's Workshop going.  We continue to have an oral storyteller each day, as well as a mini lesson, writing time, and sharing/reflection time.  We are also having the opportunity to learn from our peers when they share things they have been working on, too.  We are really excited about making books and can't wait to share these with you!

BRKFST Dance Club Artist in Residency Program

Thanks to the generosity of our Northview families and PTO, this past Friday we were able to meet with Minnesota Joe during out Physical Education class.  BRKFST Dance Club and Minnesota Joe are part of the Northview Artist in Residency program that is here teaching students about resilience, courage, believing in yourself and having fun.  I had the opportunity to sit in on this activity for a short time last Friday and it was clear the kindergartners were having FUN!

THANK YOU Minnesota Joe, Mr. Nelson, Mrs. Mueller and the Northview PTO for providing such a fun program for us to participate in!

Pancakes, Pancakes!

This week, we read the story Pancakes, Pancakes! by Eric Carle.  In this story, a little boy named Jack wants a pancake for breakfast.  However, his mom is really busy and tells him she will make him a pancake but he will have to help her gather the ingredients.  This was not an easy job for Jack!  If you want to know more about the story, be sure to ask your kindergartner to tell you about the story...I don't want to spoil it for you.

On Friday, with the help of our amazing Northview safe keepers Miss Becky, Mrs. Radermacher and Ms. Kieltyka, we made and ate pancakes in our classroom!  We got to choose if we wanted to eat them plain, with maple syrup, strawberry jam or both.  We LOVED the pancakes and had so much fun enjoying this fun treat together.

Miss Becky was in charge of the cooking.  She made us some very yummy pancakes!

A special Thank You to Miss Becky, Ms. Kieltyka and Mrs. Radermacher for making this fun activity happen!
