Young Scholars

We had our first Young Scholars class yesterday with Mrs. Helen Jacobse.  The Young Scholars (YS) Program is an academic program that embraces research-based practices for identifying and nurturing gifted potential in students who have been historically underrepresented for gifted services.  YS Specialists (like Mrs. Jacobse) select 3 - 5 lessons to teach to the whole class to help initiate the Young Scholars identification process in grades K - 3.  She read us a story called The Colors of Us.

After we listened to the story, we made self portraits.  We had to be really specific and make the picture look as much like us as possible!

When we completed the self portraits, we took a museum walk to admire each other's work.  We did a pretty good job!

Mrs. Jacobse is going to take our portraits and put them in to a class book to share with our families.  Watch for it to come home some time soon.  For more information on the District 196 Young Scholars program, feel free to look at the District 196 website or let me know.
