On Monday, we read the story The Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdone. It is a very fun story about a confident gingerbread boy who manages to run away from lots of people and animals. He is very proud of himself until he gets to a river. Now, the crowd chasing him is fast approaching and he needs a plan...fast! If he jumps into the water, he will surely crumble to pieces. Just in the nick of time, a sly fox arrives with a solution to help the gingerbread boy across the river and, well, you know the rest! All this talk about gingerbread got us thinking that we should make our own gingerbread man and have it for a snack on Tuesday. We quickly got to work.
We gathered up all the ingredients and supplies we would need and got busy. Mrs. Kurt helped us out but we did most of the work!
Once we had all the ingredients mixed together, we all had to help out by stirring the batter and saying our poem:
Round and round, 1-2-3.
A gingerbread man I soon will be!
Next we had to mold the dough to look like a gingerbread man. We did the best we could!
Next we took him to the kitchen and asked the lunch ladies nicely if they would please bake him for us. We warned them not to peek in the oven and to be sure he did not run away. They promised us they would be careful. We can't wait until tomorrow!
