Learning About Author's Voice and Point of View

In our read alouds this week, we have been discussing and learning about author's voice and point of view.  We read three versions of the story about the three little pigs.

The Three Little Pigs by Paul Galdone

The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith

The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf by Mark Teague

We had some incredible discussions about each of these stories.  We talked about the characters, setting and whose point of view the author is telling the story from.  We discussed the problem in each story, decided what was the climax or most important event of the story, agreed on the turning point of each story and determined the lesson in each.  We made some pretty amazing story maps, too.

I continue to be amazed at the discussions we are having and the knowledge your children have gained this year.  They have become such great thinkers when it comes to literature.  I am so excited for all they are learning and will continue to learn throughout the years!!
