Fire Fighter Visit

This week was Fire Prevention Week.  The highlights of this week actually took place on Thursday when we had a visit from some real Eagan Fire Fighters!

The day started out like any other day and then we had a fire drill.  There were firefighters from the Eagan Fire Department there to watch us do the drill and tell us what we did well and what we need to work on.  After the drill, we went back inside, grabbed our jackets and fire hats and went outdoors to see a fire truck.

One of the firefighters is named firefighter Ben.  He is actually a former Northview All Star!!!  He dressed in his gear to let us see what he would look like.  This helps us to know that if we are ever in a fire, we don't need to be scared.  Firefighters are good strangers who are there to help us!

We also got to see all the cool equipment they carry on their truck and what it is all used for.

But the best part of all was getting a chance to climb inside the truck.  We got to sit in the truck and see what it is like inside.  Very cool!

After we visited the truck, we went back inside.  More firefighters came to our classroom to talk to us about fire safety.  We learned about smoke detectors, when to call 9-1-1, what to do if our clothing catches on fire (stop, drop and roll), if we have a fire, we need to get out and stay out, and to sleep with our bedroom doors closed at night.

We really learned lots about fire prevention.  A huge thank you to the Eagan Fire Department and all the wonderful firefighters for visiting us at school and for keeping us safe.
