Writer's Workshop

This week, we started transitioning from telling stories and community writing to putting our own stories on paper.  We are learning all the new procedures we will use for Writer's Workshop as well and discovering the new tools we will be using, too.

We begin our Writer's Workshop by having a friend tell us a story.

The story teller checks the audience to be sure they are ready to listen.

Once we are ready, the story teller begins.  They tell us their story.  The audience listens carefully.  When the story tell is done, they say "I'm ready for questions and comments."  Then the audience members can ask questions about the story to get more details or they can make comments about the story.

Then the story teller makes a plan in their journal...they figure out where they will sketch their story.  We begin by sketching the story first...then we add details!  Next we go to our tables and start the writing (or sketching!) process.

At the end of Writer's Workshop, we always do some type of sharing.  On this day, this student shared her writing on the document camera so she could "teach" the class what she did in her journal.  We are excited to continue this process and to grow as kindergarten writers!
