Pumpkin Investigation

Wednesday afternoon for Math, we did a pumpkin investigation.  We were able to get a REALLY big pumpkin to use for this!

We had to do lots of estimating for this activity, and that is kind of hard for us!  An estimate is a guess.  We are good at guessing, but sometimes we want our guess to be right!  We are working on that.  First, we used our sense of touch to think of words to describe how the pumpkin felt.

We estimated how many cubes tall the pumpkin was and how much it weighed.

Our pumpkin was 26 cubes tall, weighed 44 pounds (for real!) and had 27 lines.  We did not estimate how many lines the pumpkin had because we were so interested in the digital scale we borrowed from our school nurse, Mrs. Hannasch, that everyone got to have a turn getting weighed!  (Everyone except Mrs. Kurt...)

We ended our day by reading a story that Ashlyn brought in to share with us!  Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
