Writer's Workshop…Leaning to Sketch Faces

We read a wonderful story this week in Writer's Workshop called The Colors of Us by Karen Katz.  It is a beautiful story that celebrates the similarities and differences in children.

In Writer's Workshop, we are learning how to sketch faces of people.  Ms. Kieltyka modeled for us, using Nardos as her model.

We watched very carefully while Ms. Kieltyka did her best to sketch Nardos' face.  Then it was our turn to try.  We got to sketch Mrs. Radermacher!

This was such a fun lesson.  We learned that we really just need to do the best we can, and move on.  We had fun focusing on the details of our models and sketching them, too!

Sledding

I could not have had more fun today than I did with your children out behind Northview SLEDDING!!      It was an absolute blast.  Many thanks to Mr. Nelson, Mrs. Mueller, Mrs. Radermacher and Mr. Ball for making this first sledding experience at Northview the best!  Enjoy the photos!

Gingerbread Houses

There was so much excitement in Kindergarten today you could almost feel it!  Yes, it was our gingerbread house day!  We read about it in our message...

…and had a wonderful discussion during our Interactive Read Aloud of the book Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett.

We had to spend some time getting all of supplies and room ready for the big event.

We even had the help of some special elves to get the candy decorations ready for us.  Many thanks to Samantha Otis (E.J.'s mom), Becky Johnson (Maveryck's mom) and Amber Kissner (Malia's mom) for coming in early and getting the decorations ready.  You rock!

Then it was time for the fun to begin!  Thanks so much to everyone who came today to make this one of the best days ever in Kindergarten.  Thanks also to everyone who donated candy decorations.  It was so fun to see kids and their parents working together to create these masterpieces.  Enjoy the photos!
