Bear Snores On

Today we went on a field trip to Stages Theater in Hopkins to see a production of the play Bear Snores  On.  This play is based on the book Bear Snores On written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by Jane Chapman.  We read the story earlier this week, in preparation for our trip.

We were really excited to take our first field trip.  We had to eat lunch early and then take a pretty long school bus ride.  We had fun and some of us were a little nervous to go to a theater for the first time!

Once we arrived at the theater, we went inside, found our seats and waited for the show to begin.

Before the play started, some of the characters mingled in the audience.  They were looking for the bear!

It was such a great performance and the kindergartners were so well behaved and well mannered…I was very, very proud of them.  After the performance, the characters from the play were in the lobby of the theater and we had a chance to greet them!

I really think that the bus ride was the best part of the trip for some of us!

Special thanks to our amazing chaperones, who gave up time out of their busy days to accompany us on our trip.  We would not be able to do fun things like this without you so THANK YOU Pamela Cummings, Shana Fouts, Colleen Frank, Alyssa Partridge and Traci Schmitt.  And a special shout out to Mrs. Radermacher for all she does for our kindergartners!

SNOW!

What a difference a day makes!  This was the view from our classroom right after our early dismissal yesterday...

…and this was the view when I got to school this morning!

As you might imagine, I had some pretty excited kindergartners when it came time for recess.  They were so excited to be the first ones out to play in the new snow and boy, did they have FUN!

This afternoon, Miss Sarah came for our Yoga Calm class.  Our theme was community and we did an exercise where we needed to depend on our community members.

Miss Sarah is helping all of us learn ways that we can calm ourselves and get our bodies ready for learning.

Pancakes, Pancakes!

Last week, we read the Eric Carle story Pancakes, Pancakes!  In this story, a young boy named Jack wakes up one morning and decides he wants pancakes for breakfast.  His mom agrees but tells Jack he will have to help her.  We talked about how we get pancakes when we want to eat them…we might buy them and put them in the microwave or toaster, or we might use a pancake mix and make them.  However, in this story, things were very different.  Be sure to ask your kindergartner what Jack needed to get to make pancakes with his mom!

All this talk about pancakes made us hungry, so on Monday morning, we made and ate pancakes.  We even made our own butter, using some heavy whipping cream and shaking it in a jar!  Everyone had a chance to help shake the jar.

I have to admit, we made our pancakes the easy way…we used a pancake mix.  But we had our fresh butter, syrup and strawberry jam to top them with.  And, best of all, we had Mrs. Radermacher to do the cooking!  She LOVES making pancakes!!!

We shared pancakes with our neighbor, Mr. Ball.  Everyone loved the pancakes and we had a lot of fun doing something special in school.  We wrote about making pancakes in our Reader's Journals, too.
