Our kindergartners have been practicing a new way to share their thinking with a peer. We call it Turn and Talk. Students turn to a partner and then talk about whatever the topic is. For example, this past week, we read The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle. In this story, a young male cricket tries desperately to rub his wings together and make a sound. However, for most of the story, he is unsuccessful. The cricket does not give up and eventually is able to accomplish his goal.
Our Turn and Talk topic this day was for the kindergartners to tell their partner something that they tried really hard to do.
When the students finish sharing their thinking, they return to their spot on the perimeter of the rug. Next, each partnership shares. Each member of the partnership has to report what their partner said. This makes it really important that both partners are not only sharing their thinking, but really listening so they can tell the other kids in the class.
They did a great job sharing their thinking and reporting what their partners shared with them@
