Artwork Created in the Style of Eric Carle

Our kindergartners have been busy learning about the author/illustrator Eric Carle.  We have been noticing his illustrations in many of his books and learning about how he paints tissue papers and then creates his pictures using a collage technique...he uses pieces of the tissues and puts them together to make the characters.  When he paints his tissues, he uses a variety of tools to put texture in to his paintings.

Last Friday, we painted pieces of construction paper.  We also used a variety of tools to create texture in the paintings.  We used, combs, sponges, burlap fabric, cotton balls, plastic silverware and wooden dowels.  When the paper dried, we cut it into strips and used these strips to create some pretty amazing hungry caterpillars that will soon be hanging in our classroom!

It was kind of a mess, but these artists had so much fun painting and creating.  I can't wait to see what else we make along the way.  Thanks, Eric Carle, for inspiring us to try something new!
