This past week, Mrs. Sundermeyer read us the story The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle. It is a great story that send the message that with perseverance and persistence, you can accomplish great things. The tiniest seed of all in this story became to biggest, most beautiful flower.
We loved hearing Mrs. Sundermeyer read us the story!
After reading the story, we decided to dig a little deeper into this book. Mrs. Kurt had a copy of the book for each of us to look at. She handed them out and then told us to take some time to look at the books closely. What do you notice? What do you wonder about? Off we went!
We noticed many things…spaces between words, punctuation marks, high frequency words, beautiful details in the illustrations and lots more. Then, we had to choose two or three parts of the story that we really liked the best. We marked these spots with mini post it notes.
Next, we tried something new. We learned how to do a table share. We each took a turn at our tables and shared the parts of the book that was our favorite. We had to be good listeners and be respectful when each table member was speaking.
When we finished our table share, we gathered back on the rug for questions and comments. We shared what we liked about doing this and things we did not like as well. All in all, it was fun to try a new activity and the students did a great job!
