Pancakes, Pancakes!

Friday was an exciting day in Kindergarten.  We read Eric Carle's book Pancakes, Pancakes!  It is about a boy named Jack who wakes up and is really hungry for pancakes.  He asks his mother to make him some pancakes, but she is really busy so she tells Jack that he has to help her.  However, Jack soon discovers it is not so easy!  Ask you kindergartner what happened in the story.

As you might imagine, all this talk about pancakes made us a little bit hungry.  We decided to make pancakes for our snack time.  We did not have to do as much work as Jack did in the story, but we all had a chance to help!

Once the batter was ready, our chef Mrs. Grittner got to work cooking the pancakes on the amazing griddle she brought for us to use!

While Mrs. Grittner cooked, Mrs. Kurt and Mrs. Sundermeyer got us busy writing during Writer's Workshop.  Many of us wrote about making and eating pancakes.  And speaking of eating pancakes, everyone actually tried them.  We could choose to eat them plain, with syrup or strawberry jam…just like Jack did in the story!

What a fun activity!  I was super proud of everyone for trying a pancake and maybe trying something new on it, like strawberry jam!  Many thanks to Mrs. Grittner, for bringing her griddle, syrup and for her awesome cooking skills; to Mrs. Anderson for bringing us the strawberry jam; to Ms. Sampers our fabulous OT who helped out with everything and to Mrs. Sundermeyer for being here, too.
