New Unit of Study…Eric Carle

Today we kicked off our new Unit of Study.  We will be learning about the author and illustrator Eric Carle.  We started out by looking at lots of Eric Carle's books.  Our job was to notice things about his books.

We are also very excited that our Literacy Coaches, Mrs. Fiedler and Mrs. Rapp, will be joining our class this week during our Literacy block.  They will be working with Mrs. Kurt and all of us to help us be better readers and writers.  We are glad that they are here and were able to share in our conversations about the Eric Carle books.

We started a list of the things we noticed about the Eric Carle books so far.  We will be digging in to them over the next few weeks and think we will be adding to this list!

We also had a surprise at the end of the day today.  Our class has surpassed our second goal for the APEX Fun Run, which takes place this Friday, December 8.  The reward for this was to have APEX Story Time, so Lightning Liv came this afternoon and read us the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle.  She also handed out our bracelets for the day that had the theme of empathy.

It was a great day and we are super excited to learn more about Eric Carle.  Be sure to ask your child what the word illustrator means!
