More Managed Independent Learning

We continue to build stamina during our Managed Independent Learning time each day.  We recently introduced a couple of new activities…the SMARTBoard and the pocket chart…and we continue to work on art activities, chrome books, memory games, guided reading and guided writing groups.  Enjoy some photos from this week!

The painting we are doing is for a project that goes with the book Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me by Eric Carle.

The pocket chart has words from the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle.

The Eric Carle Memory game and SMARTBoard activities are fun!

These kindergartners are working so hard on their writing and reading.  It is so fun to see their progress.

Meet Mrs. Sundermeyer

We have a new community member in our classroom and we are excited for you to meet her.  Mrs. Hannah Sundermeyer joined the Northview Elementary staff on January 2.  Mrs. Sundermeyer, or Mrs. S. as we call her, is our new English Language teacher.  She will be co-teaching Writer's Workshop with Mrs. Kurt in our classroom every day.  We had a chance to learn more about her today as she shared her story with our class!

We learned lots of things about Mrs. S.  She speaks English and Spanish, has six people in her family and has two cats named Willie and Trixie.  As you might imagine, the students were excited about her pets!

Welcome to Northview, Mrs. S.  We are so glad you are here and are very excited to work with you throughout the rest of the year!

Happy Birthday, Mrs. Grittner!

On Friday, we celebrated Mrs. Grittner's birthday.  Mrs. Grittner joined our classroom last fall as a paraprofessional following the retirement of Mrs. Sword.  She helps us out every day and even plays with us at recess time!  Mrs. Grittner lives in Eagan with her husband.  She has four children and her daughter is even a kindergarten teacher in the Twin Cities area.    We really appreciate all Mrs. Grittner does for the students at Northview and we hope she had a really nice birthday!

Cold Weather Activities

With all of the days this week having below zero temperatures, we have not been able to get outdoors at all for recess.  Although we are getting anxious to get outside and play, we did come up with a couple of fun art projects to do to keep us occupied inside.  Here is an adorable snowman project that we worked on this week.  They are on display in the hallway outside our classroom so if you happen to be at Northview, check them out!

Happy New Year!

Oh my goodness…it was SO good to see all these beautiful kindergarten faces back at school today!  I really missed them.  We spent lots of time reviewing our kindergarten rules and procedures today, as we will for the rest of this week.  We also noticed that since it is a new month, we needed to find new table spots and do some decorating for January in our classroom.  We made some adorable loop snow people to hang up.

We also thought it would be a good idea to create a list of things to do when putting our belongings in our lockers.  With all this winter gear, it is a bit tricky but it can be done.  First, we came up with ideas for what we needed to do and Mrs. Kurt wrote them down quickly.

Then, while we were at P.E., Mrs. Kurt recopied the list and added some pictures to help us in case it is too hard to read the words.  We hung it out in the hallway to help us be more organized in the mornings!
