Tree Observations

This week, we started our new unit on Trees and Weather.  We started out by talking about what it means to observe.  Observe means to look at something closely and carefully.  Scientists observe lots of things.  When a scientist observes, they use their senses...sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch.    We learned that even kindergartners are scientists.

Our kindergarten scientists went outside to observe the trees in our schoolyard.  We used our senses of sight and touch to assist with our observations.  We also noticed lots of cool things...we found a tree with a nest, a tree with two apples in it, pine and evergreen trees, small trees, big trees, trees with berries, and even a tree with a bird feeder in it.  We noticed that some trees had lost all of their leaves, some trees had lost some of their leaves and even some trees that seemed like they had not lost any leaves.

When we went back inside, we talked about and listed all the things we observed about the trees in our schoolyard.  We learned that scientists record their observations so we got our new Science Journals and recorded what we noticed about our schoolyard trees.

We are excited to learn more about trees and weather.  We LOVE being scientists!
