It is that time of year...pumpkin time! We read a great story called It's Pumpkin Time! written by Zoe Hall and illustrated by Shari Halpern. We learned so many fun facts about pumpkins from this story!
Did you know that pumpkins are a fruit? That pumpkins grow on vines? That pumpkins take about four months to get ripe on the vine? Pumpkins do not turn orange until they are ripe...first they are green, then yellow and finally orange. Pumpkins are very small when they first begin to grow. It was pretty cool to learn lots of these new facts. We also learned what the word sequence means. It means to put things in the correct order. We actually talk about sequence in school lots...in reading, writing and math! We worked on an activity where we had to color and cut out pictures of pumpkins. Then we had to arrange them in the correct sequence to show how pumpkins grow!
Here are a few of our finished projects. Be sure to ask your kindergartner to tell you what they learned about pumpkins!
