Bus Safety Drill

On Monday morning, we participated in our school bus safety drill.  Our class shared a bus with Mrs. Holtz's fourth grade class.  We had a wonderful bus driver named Cathy that explained all the emergency exits on the bus as well as all the bus rules.  We were good listeners and the fourth graders were awesome role models.

   

We practiced exiting the bus through the rear emergency exit.

   

We also practiced crossing in front of the bus safely.

Thank you to ALL of our District 196 transportation workers.  We are grateful that you transport us to and from school and field trips safely each day!

Practicing with Scissors and Glue Sticks

We are working hard to learn the names of all our new friends in our classroom community.  One of the activities we did this week had us cutting apart our names and then gluing the letters on another paper in the correct sequence.

   

   

   

  

   

We also made these cute school buses, even though our bus safety drill was postponed due to rainy weather.

   

   

   

   

   

We are getting pretty good at using our tools in Kindergarten.

   

   

   

Our Gingerbread Man

We read another version of The Gingerbread Boy by Richard Egielski today.  We talked about how the two versions of the same story were the same and different.  After we got back from our trip to the library, we went to the kitchen to get our gingerbread man for our snack.

   

Only one problem...he wasn't there!  Now what are we going to do?  Well, like all kindergartners, when we have a problem, we figure out a way to solve it.  We decided to start looking for him and following the clues.

   

Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Collins both said they saw him running by their classrooms in the hallway.  We did find some brown crumbs, so we thought we were on the right track.

   

We checked with Mrs. Town and Mrs. Griffin.  No sign of him, so we kept looking.  We checked the office and Mrs. Dayton said she saw him running through.  She also mentioned he should be using his walking feet in school...she is right!

   

Well, guess where we found him?  Right across the hall from our classroom in Mr. Ball's office.  Mr. Ball is our custodian and he is a great neighbor!  

Now it was time to enjoy a little gingerbread snack.  WE loved it!

   

   

What a fun day!

First Visit to the Northview Library

Today was our very first visit to the Northview school library.  We started out by gathering in the reading area on the bleachers.  We met the librarian, Mrs. Galland, and she read us a story.  We were very good listeners.

   

Next we got to do a book walk and look at lots of interesting books.  When we were done looking at the books, we got to choose one to borrow.  That means we had to check it out and could bring it home!  When we were done checking out the books, we got to sit on the new library furniture to look at them!

   

   

Mrs. Galland also showed us how and where to return the book we borrow from the library.

   

Mrs. Galland has some rules for us when we go to the library...

We can only check out a new book if we return the old one we borrowed each week.

We need to be responsible with our library book when we take it home.

When we finish our library book at home, it is a good idea to return it to school.
