Apple Tasting

On September 27, we did an apple tasting in our classroom.  We chose three different types of apples…red, green and yellow.  Each student had the opportunity to taste each of the different kinds of apples.  When we were finished, we used a giant floor graph to record the results of our tasting and determine which type of apple we liked the best.

Graphs are a great way to organize information and we will use a variety of types of graphs throughout the school year.  As you can see, the yellow apple was our favorite!

Visiting the Library with Mrs. Horton

One of our most favorite places in school is our library.  Our Media Clerk is Mrs. Lori Horton and she was teaching us that books are a treasure!

Each week when we visit the library, she reads us a story.  We love hearing good stories!

Then we get to look at books that might be interesting to us.  If we like them, she lets us check them out…if we returned the one from last week!

We usually go to the library once a week on Fridays…unless we do not have school.  Then Mrs. Horton is kind enough to always reschedule our library time so we don't miss out.  Thanks, Mrs. Horton.  We are excited to learn about lots of new books this year!

The Gingerbread Boy is Missing!

The next morning, we were so excited for snack time.  We could smell that yummy gingerbread boy all the way from the kitchen and could harpy think of anything else besides our snack.  We decided we could not wait one minute longer…we headed to the kitchen to pick up our snack.

Except for there was one small problem…our gingerbread boy was gone!

Mrs. Offerman gave us the sad news that the gingerbread boy jumped out of the oven and ran down the hall.  She tried to catch him, but she couldn't.  And the gingerbread boy took her tray with him, too.  She needed it for lunch so she asked us to return the tray if we found the gingerbread boy.  Well, if we were going to have a snack, we needed to find that gingerbread boy.  So off we went to find him!

We searched high and low for clues.  We did spot some gingerbread crumbs on the floor in the hall.  We also found some really nice people along the way who helped us by telling us if they had seen him.

Mrs. Trachsel and Ms. Elsen

Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Dayton

Mrs. Town, Mrs. Mullin and Mrs. Ligtenberg.  We looked everywhere but could not find him...

…well, almost everywhere.  It seems that sneaky gingerbread boy was hiding in Mr. Ball's office right across the hall from our classroom!  We sure were excited that we found him.  We also decided to eat him quick before he tried to run away again.  He was delicious!

The Gingerbread Boy

On Tuesday, September 12, we read a version of The Gingerbread Boy by Richard Egielski.  It made us so hungry that we decided to make our own gingerbread boy for a snack!

First we needed a recipe.  And some ingredients.  And a few tools.  Then we got to work!

Idil and Dev added the packages of the mix.

Reagan and Lily added the eggs.

Ben and Celia added the water.  Then EVERYONE helped with the most important part…the mixing!

ROUND AND ROUND.  1, 2, 3.  A GINGERBREAD BOY I SOON WILL BE!

When the dough was mixed, we formed it into the shape of a gingerbread boy.

We took it to the kitchen and asked the ladies nicely to please bake it for us.  We also asked them not to peek at it in the oven.  We are excited for our snack tomorrow!!
